Course Overview

The Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in Business Management is designed for learners who wish to develop their core knowledge, understanding and capabilities within the business sector. It provides a broad introduction to key areas of business and supports learners who intend to progress into higher education, professional development or employment.

The programme covers the business environment, management of organisational resources, marketing and human resource management. Learners can also develop specialist knowledge through optional units in business communication, workplace health and safety, and recruitment and selection.

Eligibility

Applicants must be aged 16 or above. Entry to the qualification is through a centre interview, and learners are normally expected to meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Hold qualifications at Level 2
  • Have work experience in a business environment and demonstrate ambition with clear career goals
  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in another discipline and wish to develop a career in business management

Learners with considerable relevant experience but no formal qualifications may also be considered following an interview, provided they can demonstrate their ability to meet the demands of the programme.

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to have IELTS 6 or equivalent.

The specification also states that applicants are normally required to provide two supporting references, with at least one preferably being academic.

Core Units

An Introduction to the Business Environment

This unit introduces different types of businesses, ownership structures and the role of owners and stakeholders. Learners also explore how businesses are organised to achieve their objectives and how political, legal, economic and social factors can influence business activities.

 

Business Resources

This unit examines how human, physical, technological and financial resources are used and managed within organisations. Learners explore employee skills and employability, organisational resources, internal and external sources of finance and the interpretation of financial statements.

 

An Introduction to Marketing

This unit introduces the role of marketing and its contribution to organisational success. Learners explore marketing techniques, market research, marketing planning, customer targeting and the development of an appropriate marketing mix for particular products and customer groups.

 

Human Resource Management

This unit introduces key areas of human resource management and the importance of effectively managing an organisation’s workforce. Learners examine human resource planning, employee skills, motivation, performance management and ways in which organisations encourage employee commitment and cooperation.

Elective Units

Learners must select two of the following three optional units.

Business Communication

This unit develops an understanding of the different types of information used within organisations and how information is communicated to internal and external audiences. Learners explore corporate communication, electronic and non-electronic communication methods and the legal and ethical considerations associated with business information.

 

Understanding Health and Safety in the Business Workplace

This unit introduces health and safety requirements within the modern workplace. Learners explore relevant legislation and regulations, safe working conditions, the responsibilities of key personnel and the processes involved in identifying, assessing and managing workplace risks.

 

Recruitment and Selection in Business

This unit examines how organisations recruit and select employees. Learners explore recruitment planning, internal and external recruitment methods, relevant legal requirements, recruitment documentation and selection procedures, including preparing for and participating in a selection interview.

Successful completion of the Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in Business Management enables learners to progress to:

  • The Qualifi Level 4 Certificate in Business Management
  • The first year of undergraduate study in a related subject
  • Employment within an associated profession

The qualification is therefore designed to provide a progression route from Level 3 business study into higher-level business education or relevant employment. Entry to a particular university or degree programme remains subject to the admissions requirements of the receiving institution.
