The Qualifi Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business, Management and Study Skills is designed for learners who wish to develop broad knowledge and practical skills in business and management while also strengthening the academic skills required for progression to higher education.
The qualification is particularly relevant to aspiring and existing junior managers, team leaders and learners seeking to develop their capabilities for employment within a management setting. It combines core business subjects with university study skills and provides opportunities to develop specialist knowledge through optional units.
Applicants must be aged 16 or above.
Entry is through a centre interview, and learners are normally expected to meet one or more of the following criteria:
In certain circumstances, applicants with considerable relevant experience but no formal qualifications may be considered following an interview, provided they can demonstrate their ability to meet the demands of the programme.
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to have IELTS 6 or equivalent.
Applicants are normally required to provide two supporting references, with at least one preferably being academic.

This unit introduces learners to different types of businesses, their ownership structures and the roles of owners and stakeholders. Learners also explore how businesses are organised and how economic, political, legal and social factors can influence their activities.
Business Resources
This unit explores the resources required for successful business operations, including human, physical, technological and financial resources. Learners also develop an understanding of sources of finance and how key financial documents can be used to assess the financial position of a business.
An Introduction to Marketing
This unit introduces the principles and purpose of marketing within business. Learners explore market research, marketing planning, customer targeting and the marketing mix, while considering the legal, ethical and organisational factors that can influence marketing activities.
Human Resource Management
This unit introduces learners to the management of people within organisations. Learners explore employee motivation, performance management and the methods organisations use to manage, monitor and develop their workforce effectively.
Business Communication
This unit develops an understanding of how information is created, managed and communicated within organisations. Learners explore different forms of business information, communication methods and the legal, ethical and operational considerations associated with using and presenting business information.
Understanding Health and Safety in the Business Workplace
This unit introduces learners to health, safety and security within a business environment. Learners examine relevant responsibilities, workplace conditions and equipment, the roles of key personnel and the processes involved in identifying and assessing workplace risks.
Managing Business Operations
This unit develops learners’ understanding of how business operations contribute to organisational performance. Learners explore operational processes, quality management, benchmarking, performance indicators, quality assurance and approaches such as continuous improvement and Total Quality Management.
An Introduction to Finance
This unit provides an introduction to financial management and the financial information used by managers. Learners explore budgets, cash flow forecasts, financial statements and ratio analysis, developing the ability to understand and interpret financial information used in business decision-making.
English for University Studies
This unit develops the English language competencies required for undergraduate-level study, with particular emphasis on academic listening, reading and writing. Learners develop skills in academic research, planning and writing, referencing, avoiding plagiarism, note-taking and understanding academic presentations and discussions.
Communication and Cultural Skills for University
This unit prepares learners for communication within a higher education environment. Learners develop skills for participating in discussions, seminars, debates and presentations while also exploring academic culture, communication with university staff and strategies for adapting to university study.
