Entry is through a centre interview. Learners are expected to meet one of the stated entry routes and any applicable English-language requirement:

• Level 2 qualifications or relevant work experience in health and social care.
• A Level 3 qualification in another discipline.
• Non-native English speakers must provide evidence of English proficiency. The specification states IELTS 5 or equivalent for applicants whose first language is not English.

Learners with considerable relevant experience but no formal qualifications may also be considered following interview, provided they can demonstrate the ability to manage the demands of the programme.

All six modules are required. 

Advanced Clinical Skills

Develops advanced clinical capability through innovative nursing techniques including telemedicine and robotic surgery, comprehensive patient assessment and advanced diagnostic tools. It also covers workplace and paediatric first aid, emergency response and psychological first aid for children.

Professional Skills Development

Develops advanced communication, leadership and team management for healthcare practice. Learners also examine ethical and legal responsibilities, lone-worker safety, time management and risk assessment in order to support safe and effective professional practice.

Personal Development

Focuses on emotional intelligence, stress management, resilience, mindfulness and self-care. Learners develop interpersonal skills and strategies for managing emotions and maintaining personal well-being in demanding healthcare environments.

Specialised Areas of Practice

Explores specialised care across paediatric, geriatric and mental health nursing, together with palliative and person-centred care. Learners consider assessment, therapeutic communication, evidence-based interventions, crisis support and individualised care planning.

UK Healthcare System and Standards

Provides an understanding of the NHS, UK healthcare policies, quality and safety standards, cultural competency and equality. It also covers safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR and the practical responsibilities associated with regulatory compliance.

Practical Applications and Fieldwork

Bridges theory and practice through case studies, simulation exercises and supervised fieldwork. Learners prepare fieldwork objectives and plans, apply nursing skills in real-world settings, and use reflection and feedback to support continuous improvement.

The programme is designed to support progression to higher education, including the first year of a degree or a related professional qualification. The specification also states that learners completing the Advanced Diploma are expected to progress to more advanced qualifications.

Progression or admission to a particular university programme is not automatic and remains subject to the receiving institution’s entry requirements, admissions decisions and any applicable recognition or credit arrangements.
